Scratch Files
Create a throwaway file in a second: New Scratch File... asks for a kind (Markdown, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, JSON, SQL, HTML, CSS, shell, Rust, Go, PHP, YAML, text) and an optional name, writes a starter, and opens it. You get full coloring, the terminal and every other feature, because it is a real file.
- Files live in
.ferrum/scratch/inside your project, with the time in the name so they never collide. - Open a Scratch File... lists the ones you made for this project, newest first.
- Move Selection to a Scratch File takes the selected text out of what you are editing.
- Add Scratch Folder to .gitignore keeps them out of your commits.
Ferrum cannot delete files for an extension, so scratch files stay on disk until you delete them in the file explorer.
Permissions
workspace.read and workspace.write, to create and open the files. Only inside the folder you opened.
